Transformational Case Studies

Context

A massive cultural shift was needed within the organisation, to support a complete transformation of its infrastructure.

The Need

A programme to transform leadership capability and performance in the organisation and inspiring role models for the 20,000 employees, to deliver cultural change.

The Journey

azzur immersion – a discovery programme unveiled the culture of the organisation and its pressing people issues. It involved inductions, attending events and one-to-one interviews with key individuals.

Programme – multiple strands and facets to develop leaders at all levels in the organisation:

  • Leadership development for 2,500 middle managers. The focus was on building self-awareness, embedding key behaviours, and developing managers’ ability to lead and motivate teams. Delivery was through a series of experiential workshops challenging conventional attitudes, beliefs, behaviours, creating a new blueprint for leadership.
  • Communicating and engaging effectively, for 120 senior managers. To shift thinking and practise from tell-style communication to engaging dialogue with theoretical input, group coaching and lots of practise using their current communication issues.
  • Leadership development for the top 150 leaders took each team member through a 360° appraisal process and one-to-one coaching to create action plans. Followed up by a series of development programmes for directors and senior management teams. To build a consistent and inspiring leadership practise within the organisation.

Outcome – positive shift is happening. Last year saw London Underground deliver its best ever operational performance and Metronet, (one of two Tube maintenance companies) was successfully integrated into the organisation.

Research two months after the 360° coaching process reveals senior managers are putting their plans into action daily – with noted positive impact on their teams and colleagues.

And there's a growing culture of giving and receiving constructive developmental feedback throughout management. Importantly, this supports the ability to challenge each other around leadership behaviours and practises.
