The art of reflection... a core leadership skill

12/06/2010

In a crisis torn world and a business environment that demands that we DO more to resolve the crises and issues how often do you allow yourself to just stop, breath and go inwards? Not to think, not to analyse, not to resolve...just to BE...to connect with that deeper, higher, wiser, all knowing part of yourself that holds most if not all of the answers you are seeking...and that is willing graciously and gracefully to offer up the answers if we are willing to open ourselves to the space?

In my view one of THE most powerful ‘tools’ in the leadership toolkit over the coming decade will be the degree to which we are able to step away from the drama and the pressure and for at least a few minutes every so often, really breath and go inwards...to open ourselves to the potential that we hold within us and draw it forth to help us to address the challenges and opportunities presented by our world today...

And, it’s not optional...the answers to many of our conundrums will not ‘be solved at the level of their creation’ – we have to reach higher, further, deeper – connect to our intuition and inspiration...

The power of finding the peaceful centre within oneself and holding lightly within that whatever challenge or issue one is facing is immense – and it can be done whilst walking alone, sitting in a place or at one’s desk...

Like many things in life, this is an art or skill that can be cultivated and like creating any positive habit it requires discipline, vigilance, practise, openness and a sense that benefit will come...
